Chimney Cakes in Raleigh-Durham , also known as kürtős kalács have a rich, centuries-old history. They're a street-food staple across Central and Eastern Europe, and they wanted to bring that experience home: the smell, the show, and that first warm bite.

They’re made by wrapping small-batch hand-rolled dough around a wooden spit, grilling over a flame until the sugar caramelizes into a crisp, golden crust, while the inside stays soft and fluffy, and then topping with cinnamon sugar. For an extra indulgence, they can be filled with spreads like Nutella or jam.

Every chimney cake is rolled out and baked-to-order on-site in their 10x10 tent, so you and your guests can watch the magic happen.

MEET THE FOUNDERS

They discovered chimney cakes on a trip to Budapest, Hungary, and they were instantly enchanted.

Watching the spiral-shaped pastries bake over an open flame and tasting their crispy, golden goodness was unforgettable. After trying them again (and again!), they knew they had to bring this incredible treat back home.

They traveled to Slovenia to master the craft, and in 2021 left their corporate careers to launch the Chimney Cakery – a mobile bakery serving fresh, made-to-order chimney cakes. To them, a chimney cake is more than dessert; it’s an experience.

Watch as they roll out the small-batch dough, wrap it onto a spindle, and then cook it until the sugar caramelizes. And then enjoy the finished product! We hope every warm, sweet bite brings you as much joy as it’s brought us.
